Physics cats – where do some of the Kotki Kędziorki names come from?

Sometimes it happens that someone asks us – where does such a „strange” name for a cat? And this „strange” thing appears often with cats that have less standard names than e.g. Chmurka, Atena, Bella or Kiwi.

So it is probably time to tell you a little story and where some of our kittens' names come from.

Aneta is a physicist by education and a physics teacher by profession (in secondary school and technical college). Mariusz is an automation-and-robotics engineer by education, and works professionally in IT (at the largest technology company in the world). Both our minds are analytical, strongly standing behind the sciences, learning, research, rationality and technological progress.

And when the idea of the cattery and of choosing the kittens' names came about, Aneta decided that in every litter there will have to be at least one kitten connected in any way with physics, mathematics, science. And Mariusz was only very pleased with this idea.

„Physics” names are varied – whether in the form of a scientist's or a famous person's surname, or in the form of the name of some unit, maybe some prefix, maybe some physical object, maybe some physical process. You probably already get the idea 🙂

And it seems to come out quite interestingly for us, so below we present to you all our cats whose names have something in common precisely with science in a broad sense.

1. Apollo – NASA's program for flights to the Moon.
2. Amper – the unit of electric current.
3. Bernulli – a scholar known for Bernoulli's principle in hydrodynamics.
4. Candela – the unit of measure of luminous intensity.
5. Diament – a crystalline form of carbon, the hardest known mineral.
6. Einstein – a physicist, creator of the theory of relativity.
7. Faraday – a physicist and chemist, a pioneer of electromagnetism.
8. Giga – a prefix meaning a billion (10⁹).
9. Hertz – a unit of frequency (the number of cycles per second).
10. Heweliusz – a Polish astronomer, author of sky atlases.
11. Intensity – the intensity of a wave, e.g. light or sound.
12. Io – a moon of Jupiter, very volcanically active.
13. Joule – the unit of energy in the SI system.
14. Jowisz – the largest planet in the Solar System.
15. Kelvin – the unit of absolute temperature.
16. Kepler – an astronomer, creator of the laws of planetary motion.
17. Lepton – an elementary particle (e.g. electron, neutrino).
18. Mili – a prefix meaning one thousandth (10^-3)
19. Newton – a scholar and physicist dealing among others with mechanics and gravity

The next cats from the next litters will surely also have „physics” names 🙂 We will add them here over time.
