Buying a cat: before our Devon comes home to you…

In short: Would you like a kitten from our cattery? You can find currently available kittens on our subpage. If there are no kittens shown there, please also read our dedicated article about kitten availability in our cattery and how joining the waiting list works.

Below you will also find several important details about our kitten purchase process and preparing for your new family member 🙂

Cats from our Cattery…

Kittens from our Cattery, before sale and moving to their new home:

Before making a decision

We know that buying a kitten is a serious decision. Please remember that you are choosing a friend for many years! Take a moment to choose both the cattery and the kitten that interests you carefully.

Before making your decision, we suggest:

  1. Reading about the Devon Rex breed, so you can decide whether this is truly the right breed for you. Devons are loving, cuddly, and beautiful, but they are also very energetic, mischievous cats that need your time and play. They are not „cats for allergy sufferers” as many people believe.

Note: After this step, you should be sure that you truly want a Devon (or decide that you are actually looking for a different breed).
  2. Checking the cattery, because it is very important to choose a place that is a legal cattery with an excellent reputation, one that cares about the cats’ health, socializes them into confident and cuddly little ones, has good reviews from previous families, and of course sends kittens home with full documentation (pedigree, health booklet, microchip). In the article linked above, we share 8 tips for future owners on how to choose a good cat cattery.

Note: After this step, you should be sure that you truly want a Devon from us – that is, from Kotki Kędziorki*PL (or decide that for some reason you are looking for a different cattery)
  3. Check the availability of our kittens, so you can see which kittens we currently have available. In our home cattery we do not have many litters (we focus on quality), so besides checking the page with available kittens, we also encourage you to follow our cattery on Social Media (Facebook | Instagram | TikTok), where we share information about planned litters, pregnancies, etc. We also encourage you to read our guide about kitten availability in our cattery.

Note: After this step, you should know whether we have a kitten for you in our cattery or whether you will need to wait for one by joining the information/reservation list (or deciding that you would prefer to look for a kitten in another cattery).
  4. Talk to us and ask about everything you need in order to make your final decision. Ask about anything that comes to mind, but also tell us a little about yourselves (whether you are a family or single, where you live, whether you have any pets, etc.).

Note: After this step, you should already have all the information needed to make the final decision on whether you want a kitten from Kotki Kędziorki*PL.

So if after all that, you are sure that you really would like to buy a kitten specifically from us, we invite you to read what to do next.

We've decided: Reservation and the purchase process

Once you are sure, that you would like to buy a chosen kitten from us, we can make a reservation for a specific kitten. We do this free of charge for about 2-3 days (we are fairly flexible here).

During this time, you receive the contract to review and to send us the details needed for it. You also have time to pay the deposit (1000 PLN).

Once it has been paid we consider that you accept the terms of the contract and that this particular cat will soon be yours. We also remove the ads about him from various places, and we notify other interested people that this cat is no longer available.

From then on, we remain with you in regular contact, sharing photos and videos of your little one, showing how he or she grows and develops – so that waiting for your kitten feels easier and more comfortable.

When can the kitten be picked up?

In short: add about 15-16 weeks*.

Closer to the pickup date, we will let you know (for that particular kitten) which specific pickup dates are possible. This depends on several things*. But we will definitely agree on a specific date that suits all of us, also taking your needs and schedule into account. And then all that remains is to wait for your new family member 🙂

More about the actual pickup can be found a little further down the page.

* NOTE: According to FIFe regulations, kittens cannot leave the cattery until they are at least 14 weeks old. We usually vaccinate our kittens for the first time at around 10 weeks of age. The next vaccination is repeated after 4 weeks. So if you add about a one-week quarantine period after the second vaccination + the time for neutering/spaying and recovery – the kitten going to a new home cannot be younger than 15 weeks (and that is why it is worth adding those approximately 15-16 weeks, meaning nearly 4 months, to the kitten's date of birth to get the estimated pickup time). Even though we would like to hand your kitten over to you as soon as possible, the longer he or she spends with the mother and siblings, the better the socialization results will be – so we definitely do not rush this timing.

Viewing the kitten and visiting the cattery

For the safety of our kittens and the entire cattery, we do not want "cat tourism" and visits to the cattery just for the sake of looking around (because "the children want to pet the kittens" or someone "just wants to check whether they are allergic").

So first of all, if you would like – we can send you as many photos and videos of the kittens (or a specific kitten) as you like. The same applies to photos of the cattery itself (our home) – although many photos and videos are already on our Social Media.

Secondly, an in-person visit visit to our cattery is possible after making a reservation. We then know that you are serious about the purchase, and that you want a kitten from our cattery. Please remember that a reservation does not obligate you to buy, but it shows that you are seriously interested in us and in a particular kitten.

A visit is only possible if:

We hope you understand these rules; they are for the safety of our cattery and your future kittens! After all, you care about healthy kittens!

If for any reason (on our side or yours) a visit is not possible – then a virtual visitis also possible. We can show you the cattery online + we also publish many photos and videos from our home on our Social Media.

If you have any questions about visits to us (including possible exceptions and special needs) – please contact us.

What should you have at home before picking up your kitten?

We receive many questions from people interested in buying a kitten about what is needed in the new home for a kitten of the Devon Rex breed.

This breed, and our kittens, are quite undemanding when it comes to location (house, apartment, etc.), surroundings, or any special requirements for the new place (although of course it is still worth being prepared for a new family member). They acclimate very quickly and adapt to new conditions. This is also true in the context of other animals (although it should be done thoughtfully and with a plan).

What, in our opinion, is essential for a kitten in the new home (apart from what you will receive in our starter pack) is:

Note: We have also created a dedicated subpage for you Cat shopping – what a cat needs, where we described in detail what we ourselves use (litter boxes, litter, scratching posts, toys), the food we give them (and where we buy it), etc.

PS. At many retailers (e.g. on the ZooPlus website) you can find special categories called Starter Pack, where you can find many interesting things useful at home for a small kitten. But we will also tell you right away – do not buy lots of things at the beginning. A kitten really does not need anything beyond what we described above (or what you will receive from us in the starter pack). Later you will see for yourselves whether you are missing anything, or whether your little one is especially interested in something. Although we understand the urge to buy your kitten everything and the very best 😉

* Trimming cats' claws can be difficult and stressful for beginners (the claws of cats of all breeds contain blood vessels, so you need to be careful not to trim too much). When you pick up your kitten, we can show you how to do it. It is also possible to have a vet trim a cat's claws. But it is really a very simple task and can be learned quickly with a few tips. NOTE: Outdoor cats (there is more information about this below) should not have their claws trimmed – they wear them down outside themselves, and they need them for climbing and possible self-defense.

Additional information

Devon Rex cats have very short coats, so NO combs are needed (or brushing). These cats (if they are indoor-only) practically never need to be bathed, because they keep themselves very clean. So a lot of grooming tasks are taken off the owner's shoulders with this breed (we know because we once had a Maine Coon and a Persian cat – there was much more grooming involved there, not to mention the amount of fur in the house).

If there is a balcony in your house/apartment, it is essential to install a protective safety net, put insect screens on doors, or make sure the cat does not go out there (which is not that easy at all). Devon Rex cats are very agile, brave, and curious, so such an unsecured place can be truly very dangerous for them!

Our cats from Kotki Kędziorki*PL are indoor-only cats and we would very much like them to stay that way! But if in the new home they were to go outside the house/apartment, then absolutely under our control (not on their own) + it is worth thinking about a few things – we wrote a separate guide about this titled Walking a cat – is it worth it, is it possible? 2 advantages, 6 disadvantages, and 6 tips. NOTE: Outdoor cats should also be vaccinated against rabies.

Picking up your kitten

Before pickup day, we ask you to pay the full agreed amount (as per the contract). Without it, picking up the kitten will not be possible. Payment of the remaining amount can also be made on site (via BLIK, phone payment, or an instant bank transfer, which must appear in our account immediately when made).

During the pickup itself you will receive from us:

Remember to bring a carrier with you for pickup for your kitten! We will, however, have a blanket for you to put inside, with the scent of our cattery (so you do not need to bring anything for the inside of the carrier).

* If the organization we belong to (EKKR/FPL) has not yet managed to issue the original paper pedigree for the cat by the day of pickup, we will pass it on to you immediately after receiving it (in person or by courier) – this is included in the contract. However, the pedigree in electronic form you will be able to see even before making the decision to purchase. So far, we have handed over 100% of pedigrees as original paper copies at the time of pickup 🙂

Starter pack for your cat

In our cattery, we want to ensure the very best start for the little one in your home. That is why we prepare for a very generous and extensive starter pack, for which you do not have to pay extra (it is included in the price of the kitten).

In the starter pack you will find:

And all of this packed in a felt bag with an embroidered logo of the cattery.

You will also receive from us in a folder:

* On the page Cat shopping – What a cat needs we described which food we use (and which other alternatives you can choose if you would like to change it). You can order it yourselves before picking up your kitten. The food from us should last for about a week.

Frequently asked question: What affects the price of a cat?

As we mentioned on the page about our cattery, it was created out of love for cats – it is small and home-based. We do not make our living from it, and we do not breed animals wholesale, it is our hobby, passion, and love.

We are often asked what affects the price of a cat and why it is sometimes higher than the prices of cats in various other places (plus, in most cases, we do not negotiate the amounts quoted to you).

The amount for which you buy a cat from us is largely a reimbursement of breeding and upkeep costs, and it consists of, among other things:

It is worth knowing this so that you can also recognize a kitten that is too cheap and may come from a pseudo-cattery (here you can read more about pseudo-catteries), where most of these costs may not exist because, for example, the cats are not tested, have no pedigrees, receive no proper care, and are fed the cheapest food. Also beware of so-called „pedigree cats without pedigrees„. Every cat from an official cattery should have a pedigree, so insist on it when buying.

Ultimately, you can assume that a cat in our cattery costs around 5,600 PLN (in the “pet” option) and the sale price depends on several factors (mainly sex, because spaying a female is more expensive and recovery takes longer). We encourage to contact us if you are interested in buying a kitten from our cattery. Of course, the price of a cat in the “for breeding” option will be much higher and starts at around 16,000 PLN (female kitten).

More questions about buying a cat?

Of course, on the day you pick up your kitten (or earlier, if you wish) we will go over all of this mentioned above once again (regarding equipment, care, kitten behavior, etc.).

We simply wanted to describe on this page everything that prospective owners ask about most often, because very often (especially owners who will be having a cat for the first time), in the flood of information you forget what we told you – over the phone or at an in-person meeting 🙂

But don't worry, we are here to always help you and so that you can always come back to us with any questions (also after buying a cat)!
