6 reasons why Devon Rex cats should be adopted in pairs

Devon Rexes are extremely sociable, energetic and intelligent cats that love interacting with people and other animals. When deciding on a cat of this breed, it's worth considering buying two individuals right away. Why? Here are six key reasons why Devons work best in (at least) a pair.

1. Lepsze samopoczucie i brak samotności

Devons are cats strongly attached to company. Left alone for long hours they may feel lonely and stressed. Having two Devon Rexes provides them with company all day long, thanks to which they do not feel the absence of their carer so acutely.

Korzyść: Cats will be less exposed to behavioural problems related to loneliness, such as excessive meowing or destructive behaviours.

2. Większa aktywność fizyczna i mentalna

Devons are very energetic cats that need a lot of stimulation. Having a second cat allows them to play, run and explore their surroundings together, which is conducive to physical and mental health.

Korzyść: Cats will be less bored and more fulfilled, which translates into their wellbeing.

3. Lepsza adaptacja w nowym domu

When two cats come to a new home together, it is easier for them to adapt to the new environment. A familiar scent and shared experiences help them feel safe and comfortable more quickly.

Korzyść: Less stress during adaptation, which has a positive effect on the cats' mental health.

4. Mniejsze zaangażowanie opiekuna w zajmowanie kota

Although every cat needs attention and love, two Devons can occupy each other. They play, wash each other and communicate with one another, which relieves the carer of the need to provide entertainment all the time.

Korzyść: More time for the carer while at the same time providing the cats with the necessary stimulation.

5. Mniejszy poziom stresu podczas nieobecności opiekuna

Devon Rexes may cope badly with long hours of solitude, but having a companion they bear the absence of their people more easily. The cats support each other and do not experience as much stress as may accompany single individuals.

Korzyść: No symptoms of stress, such as excessive vocalisation, apathy or destroying objects.

6. Większa szansa na bezproblemowe dokocenie

If you already own one Devon Rex, adding a second cat of the same breed can be an excellent way to provide it with company and reduce boredom. Devons are usually open to new acquaintances, especially if the introduction process is carried out with appropriate care.

Korzyść: Większa radość i satysfakcja z posiadania kociego towarzysza.

O czym warto pamiętać przy dokoceniu?

If you're planning to add a second Devon Rex to your current cat, it's important to carry out the introduction process properly. Slow introduction of the new cat, separate spaces to begin with, exchanging scents and gradually getting acquainted through positive associations are the key to success.

Wskazówka: Do not rush direct contact – observe the cats' reactions and let them build the relationship gradually. If you need more information on this topic – ask us!

Nasza praktyka…

When running the cattery we often mention this to new interested parents zasadzie dwupaku. And we say straight away that we are not trying to „sell” more or to force a second kitten on you… But we simply know from experience that Devons behave best when there are at least two of them 🙂

And we have many examples where someone bought one Devon from us, but za jakiś czas wracał do nas po kolejnego i mówił, że faktycznie trzeba było brać dwa od razu 🙂

Examples of this are Bernoulli, Candela and Chester, who came to live together in Warsaw, Bajka and Frezja, who came to live together in Łoziska, H-Wenus and Chmurka, who came to live together in Koszalin.

But many of our kittens also joined a home where there was already another Devon (or a cat of another breed or another animal).
